Fort Lauderdale’s 2013-2014 Season Will Include The Book of Mormon, Chicago and More

Two young Mormons and a pair of sultry murderesses are making their way to Fort Lauderdale. The 2013-2014 Broadway season will feature the blockbuster smash The Book of Mormon as well as the Broadway classic Chicago. The season lineup will also include Memphis, The Wizard of Oz, American Idiot and Ghost. All shows will play the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The Book of Mormon, winner of nine Tony Awards, will open on November 26, 2013 and close on December 22. Written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez, The Book of Mormon follows two young Mormon missionaries sent to Uganda, who soon discover their training did not quite prepare them for the world outside of Salt Lake City.

Set in the turbulent south in the 1950s, Memphis is the rollicking story of Huey Calhoun, a white radio DJ whose love of good music transcends race lines and airwaves. A Tony winner for Best Musical, Memphis is a powerful story about fame and forbidden love. The musical opens on February 25, 2014 and closes on March 9.

The razzle-dazzle musical Chicago will strut onto the Fort Lauderdale stage from October 9, 2013 through October 20. A story of fame, fortune and seduction that has thrilled Broadway audiences for years, Chicago features a classic score by John Kander and Fred Ebb that his packed with the hits “All That Jazz,” “Roxie” and “Mr. Cellophane.”

The classic tale of The Wizard of Oz gets the Andrew Lloyd Webber treatment in a brand-new production. Containing all the classic songs from the Oscar-winning movie, this The Wizard of Oz also comes with new songs by Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to help tell the tale of Dorothy and her friends as they journey through the magical land of Oz to obtain their hearts desires. The family-friendly musical opens on January 7, 2014 and runs through January 19.

The hit musical American Idiot tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Based on Green Day’s Grammy Award-winning multi platinum album, the show features the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends” and “Holiday.” The rock musical will open on March 25, 2014 and run through May 11.

The romance of Ghost will touch a whole new generation as the story of the 1990 movie comes to the stage in a brand new musical. The story follows Sam and Molly, a young couple whose connection takes a shocking turn after Sam’s untimely death. Trapped between two worlds, Sam turns to a storefront psychic who helps him protect Molly and avenge his death. The musical spectacle will play from April 29, 2014 through May 11.
